You could say I came late to the party. Or that life got in the way. Or that I was too busy having adventure. But really I think it was more like I didn’t quite know what I wanted to do ‘when I grew up’, so I tried many things.

As my time at the University moved on, my community expanded into the larger University community.

I honestly can’t remember where I first heard this tip, but one of the best and simplest things I’ve ever done at work –to keep morale up, to ensure I maintain awareness of my strengths, and to prepare for development conversations with my supervisor–is to create a “Happy” folder in Outlook.

As a new professional in higher education there are so many different “communities” to be a part of. One for student affairs, one for career development, woman, Latinx, and more outside of higher education as well that include family and friends.
