Details

Sessions will be 50 minutes long. The conference will run from about 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. We look for proposals that align with the UWHEN mission, and that support the conference theme. The conference theme, “Are We There Yet?,” speaks to the fact that, despite all the work that has been done to advance women’s leadership in higher education, there is still much more to be done. This theme includes three tracks:

  1. Moving the Needle – topics that support women's career advancement in higher education.
  2. Shaping the Future – topics that equip attendees to lead change, take advantage of new opportunities, and build relevant skills.
  3. From Surviving to Thriving – topics that equip attendees to create flourishing environments, advocate for themselves, etc.

Important Dates

  • Presentation proposals due: Monday, Jan. 30 at 9:00 am
  • Committee reviews proposals: Jan. 30 - Feb. 17
  • Proposal acceptance emails sent: Feb. 17

Presenter Notes

  • Topics should be relevant to faculty and/or administrators in higher education. Some topics suggested by past attendees include: imposter syndrome; salary negotiation/pay equity; mentorship; implementing EDI frameworks in your work; collaboration across generations/working on multi-generational teams; intersectional identities; lifting up fellow women as you rise; self-advocacy/building your personal brand.
  • Presenters do not need to identify as a specific gender, nor do they need to be employed at a higher education institution.
  • Presenters are encouraged to cite current literature and best practices, as well as share resources with attendees. Additionally, the 2023 UWHEN Annual Leadership Conference will have a conference proceeding (published as a Journal: UWHEN Conference, SUU Press). Accepted abstracts will be published in proceedings with an ISSN.
  • Presenters understand and give permission to potential UWHEN photography, filming, or streaming of the presenter and content for educational and promotional purposes.
  • Presenters must register and pay the relevant conference fees by the deadline sent in proposal acceptance emails. Accepted proposals will not be considered confirmed until presenters have registered.
  • This conference is an excellent way to build attendees’ networks and to share knowledge, and we encourage first-time speakers to submit presentations. If you have questions about a proposal idea, or its potential connections to the UWHEN mission, please feel free to contact Stephanie Baugh (chapter chair) and she will be happy to discuss.
